And so I joined in The Gossip Girl party

Dear dory,

Last sat, our dear Mychelle held her 21st birthday at Hotel Re! And you know what, suh really LOVES the ambience, the boutique-ness of it, and its serenity! The birthday girl she’s sooo prettie, loved her big purple checkered ribbon. hahaha! But she was soooo busy, never for a second will you see our dear duck idling doing nothing. For the entire night, she has been hosting the guestssssssss (And i mean that must ‘s’-es). Hope you ate a little in the end!

But despite that, suh had loads of fun, eating, and looking at the guy who posed as the female character of gossip girl ( i have no idea which character LOL)-that guy is classic, serious.

YC called halfway through the party, really missed this lady. Really hoped she had been there then, missed talking to her face to face. The feeling is just not the same talking via the phone.

But anyway, something random, haha the photos were really nice! Love the big one especially. And the cake is very prettieee. (hahah eh mych, where you buy the cake one arh?)

ENTREPRENEURS IN THE MAKING

A business plan to produce bespoke slippers helped a team of second year SMU economics undergraduates win top spot in the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (SICCI) Youth Enterprise Awards 2009. After two rounds of presentations, Gerald Fok Pui Hung, Umangkumar Milan Parikh and Owen Tan Wah Chen emerged champions with their MeSlippers plan, beating teams from NUS and Global Indian International School, and taking home the top prize of $3,000. The next challenge for the student entrepreneurs would be implementing and commercialising the business plan, working closely with the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at SMU.

Dear dory,

Today while Suh was sieving through her emails, she came across this article and saw the word "MeSlippers". Haha immediately that brought back so much memories of her freshman year. MeSlippers was actually just a small creative thinking group project that she and her groupmates (Peilian, Khoa, Linh and Gerald) had came out with, and never has she thought that it would go so far. Gerald must have really pushed all the way to transform this project to a product. And the best part is, didn't did she expect that Owen will be involved in what used to be Suh's project. The world is really small. haha. But still, way to go mann! Suh really hopes to see MeSlippers appear in stores. Jia you guys!

Synoposis:

Joanna Fung is the envy of many girls: She studies at a top Junior College, has a girl-next-door look and has good results. However, deep on her heart, she holds a secret: She believes that she has a curse. She believes that every bad thing she said will come true.

Jacky Wu is an ideal price charming: He is good in his studies and has girls waiting to hold his hand. He smiles every few minutes and often cracks jokes. However, he, too, holds a deep secret.

Dear dory,

Like the other mundane sundays, Suh was rushing out a E-mailer for her dear B CCA to be blasted to the school population just now.

And so she logged in into her CCA account when she saw this really sweet email from a fellow peer overseas:

From: (Stud. SBE)
Sent: Sun 3/7/2010 8:47 PM
To: UNIVANTAGE, SMUSA
Subject: Attn: Dr. Love

Dag Doctor Love!

Greetings from Maastricht! I just managed to get my hands on a copy of the UniVantage magazine which was sent across by Ding Hao (kudos to him!). It got the SMU students really excited! Yes we are all trying to get far far away from SMU but we all cannot help but squeal when we could reconnect to our beloved University through a bi-product! Some ogled at the student models while others (surprisingly the guys) started guessing who Dr. Love is. A couple even thought it might be the editor (but I am pretty sure you would not give your own identity away)!!

I was eagerly flipping to your article after catching sight of the words “Dr Love says” on the cover page. Just like any other young, blog-shopping-is-so-in lady who requires their monthly “feminine” dose of Cleo, Woman’s Weekly, Her World and Simply Her, I would faithfully read the magazines’ love columns (and sometimes even Sumiko Tan’s witty comments on love); in hope of trying to understand the chemistry between Martian Men and the Venusians Women.

But Doc, I must say, unlike the self proclaimed know-it-alls out there, your column has managed to skip all the politically correct nonsense or self fulfilling theories, and hit me at the right spot (no pun intended here too)! I mean, seriously, nowadays any stuff that cannot be googled on Google is worth a read! Simply put, I just like the message you are trying to send across, “To be open minded when it comes to love”. There are really no laws to love, you can loudly proclaim, “I will never like this type of guy/girl”, “The qualities I want in my man/woman are XXXX” but when love hits you hard, it hits you real hard, and all these preset standards you gave yourself will make sense no more. Isn’t that why love is the greatest mystery of all?

Wells, I am not Nurse Love here, but I disagree that girls always settle for the safer choice. As the Chinese saying goes, "男人不坏, 女人不爱 ". I mean honestly, sometimes I think of men as a Rubix Cube, (men can be so square at times, no pun intended). “Bad boys” are somehow more mysterious, intriguing and harder to understand, likened to a 3 x 3 x 3 cube. Whilst, the straight laced ones are perhaps simpler to comprehend and figure out and are represented by a 2 x 2 x 2 cube.

Yeah sure, the less complicated cube is easier to work on. Girls, we just have to twist and turn a little and viola, we get them. Ok………. what next? You just leave the cube on the table and dust sets in.

But, on the other hand, you constantly want to work on the tougher cube, you keep the cube in your hands. Sometimes you think you got him right where you see one side of the cube has the same colour, but hey no, the rest of the 5 sides are still jumbled up because there is more than what meets the eye. The journey ain’t easy I know, but it keeps you going and he keeps you interested. Wells, fair enough, I don't represent all girls!

Sometimes, I think the reason why these "bad boys" don't stay faithful or haven't settled down is simply because they haven't met the right girl yet. Like you said, find the right girl and ka-boom, this babe would hit him bull's eye, right into the soft spot of his heart. He will soon learn what it is like to strip himself of any masculine ego and learn what it truly means to miss somebody, to want her attention, to genuinely care for someone and say “I love you” not out of a habitual act, but out of raw emotions. But of course, like I said, there is no law to love, what applies to one doesn’t always apply to the other. We ain’t no Albert Einstein; where E is always mc2.

Oops sorry, I just ended up telling you what I think. Wells, was just discussing with a girlfriend, it would be really interesting if you were a guy. I mean you do sound like a guy in “Safe vs. Dangerous”, “Dealing with Competition” but yet you have a female voice in “Love vs. Delusion” and “Dealing with Break-ups”. Could you really speak for both sexes? Wells, I am not sure if you read or even reply to fan mail but I am definitely looking forward to your reply and next column!

Dr Love, btw just wondering do you think a Cupid of your legion would ever accidentally shoot an arrow at yourself?

Your number 1 fan always XOXO,

(Censored)

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. . .And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. - excerpts from 1 Corinthians 13:4-13

Although it was addressed to the author, who is my publications director. Suh is really happy because this positive feedback really made suh think that all the hard work she put in for one entire month of January is ALL worth it.
